The Acorn that doomed Earth
Now you would think all animals have
to deal with is finding their next meal and sniffing each other butts, well not
in this 20th Century Fox production.
In the movie Ice Age Collision Course
marriage and relationships are not the only thing the main characters have to
deal with. What really happened to extinction of the mammoth or the sloth or
even the saber tooth tiger? Now you never would guess what this children's
comedy portrays as the potential extinction of these playful, crazy and wild
animals that once roamed the place we sit and sip on our Starbucks pumpkin
spice latte.
Just when you thought 20th Century Fox couldn’t make another Ice age movie, you were wrong! The new
movie they have created is called Ice
Age: Collision Course, staring all the original characters-- Scrat, Manny,
Diego, and Sid. The film begins of course with Scrat trying to bury the famous
acorn, when suddenly he activates a hidden alien ship. As Scrat is up in space
he initiates an unwillingly asteroid strike headed directly toward earth, which
is referenced as the “Collision Course.” Putting all of it aside Manny, Diego,
and Sid seem to be having problems of their own. You would never guess that animals
in the prehistoric time would have wedding days, thoughts about future family,
and the things that we humans dread to deal with, the horrible thing we call
“the breakup.” As we meet a new character Buck, a one eyed, dinosaur hunter,
adventurer seeking weasel, warns them about the asteroids and explains that
these asteroids have taken out past animals and that they should travel to
these past sites to find out how to stay safe. This PG movie is yet another
spoof on what really happened with the real extinction of the prehistoric
animals. If you want to watch the trailer click here
A
National Geographic article claims that
“More than 90 percent of all organisms that have ever lived on earth are
extinct” (“Mass Extinction”). While new species have been created/developed to
compensate for the changes. Scientist say that the mass extinction of these
organisms is still one of those “unsolved mysteries” (“Mass Extinction”). An
unsolved mystery that schools have seemed to discover because all schools seem
to teach that prehistoric animals/organisms were destroyed due to volcano
destruction and asteroids crashing into earth. The one thing that some
scientist do believe that was stated in the article was “Massive floods of lava
erupting from the central Atlantic magmatic province…. about Triassic-Jurassic extinction”
(“Mass Extinction”). Scientist believe that with this “die off of animals” it
is one of the biggest die offs that this world will ever see (“Mass
Extinction”). Now a question that we must ask ourselves, did 20th Century Fox really just discover
what the potential cause of the animal die off before the big named scientist
did?
Fox productions
was thrilled by the advancements in technology and famous stars that were up
and coming in our society. As years went by, and technology advanced, and several
movies later, Fox seemed to truly make a name for himself and have his place.
The goals for Fox was again to always make people feel something. He broke his
movies down into three categories to help people be able to distinguish the
creation of movies. Modern Classics, including everyone's scientific fiction
favorite Star Wars, was one of Fox’s greatest accomplishments. Movies
that Matter is a section that speaks for itself, with films such as, Life of
PI, Titanic, and recently Fault In Our Stars. The last section is
“The Future” ("Over 75 Years of Filmmaking History"), one of the most
thrilling and exciting sections that people seem to enjoy in many different
aspects. Fox believes that the future of production and technology is very
important in entertaining people. They strive to stay ahead of each new
technological outbreak and make sure their audience enjoys each aspect of their
film. As Fox says they believe in making sure their audience remains happy and
enjoys their movies, they for sure had a big miss with their recent Ice Age movie.
Now
don’t get me wrong, 20th Century Fox
has made some amazing thrillers that I could watch more than a hundreds of
times. But this movie, is one of the most scientifically inaccurate unenjoyable
movies of our time. I could only describe this movie as Ice Age the Collision Course with bad jokes, lame entertainment,
and a waste of the seven dollars I payed for my ticket into the movie and the
twelve dollars I payed for cheap snacks. Fox
has made four Ice Age movies up until
this point and each one has had a significant amount of money and brought
hundreds of thousands of millions of families packed into a movie theater with
popcorn and their sugar infested drinks. But, this Ice Age series was four too many for this generation. Being
a 90s kid I grew up watching these Blockbuster thrillers and animated
phenomenon, and I couldn’t say in a nicer way that this movie was truly just a
waste of time due to the identical plot as the last 3 movies.
After
seeing the first Ice Age as a 5-year-old
seeing how the characters seemed to know what would make me laugh, and how I
couldn’t seem to take my eyes of the screen as Sid did another embarrassing and
crazy thing, as Manny played the dad role for the many other animals in the
movie, and Diego tried to control his tiger like instincts and not to eat any
of the animals. Ice Age: Collision course
was nothing more than a similar plot with different scenarios and the addition
of characters that try too hard to make the audience laugh. Now don’t get me
wrong the animation put into this movie was well done and sure outdid previous
movies. Other than the animation, the film truly didn’t add anything more to
the animation genre that 20th Century Fox
has dominated for years and will dominate in the future. The one thing that
I can say is that my walk to the bathroom halfway through the movie was
slightly more interesting due to the fact I found a quarter next to the sink.
If
you feel the need to go see a movie at the movie theater in the next couple
days and you have no possible idea of what movie to see. Do not ask the front
desk person what movie you should see. Unless you specify that you want to see
a movie that will completely waste 80 mins of your time. Instead you might as
well go do something that is a hundred times more interesting. For example, go
home and paint a wall and watch it dry. Because truly and honestly that would
be more interested than this subpar movie. And to just add on to the end of
this review they have just released that they talking about making a sixth
movie which makes no sense, because how many different endings does prehistoric
time really need?
